Declaration Meetings - Exercise Science or Sport Management Major

Students who wish to declare a major in Exercise Science or Sport Management must: have completed a minimum of 1 semester at Rutgers University-New Brunswick with a minimum overall GPA of 2.0. First Semester Transfer Students are eligible to declare if they have transferred into Rutgers University-New Brunswick with a minimum of 15 credits.

If you are interested in declaring your major this semester, you must attend a declaration meeting. Declaration Meetings will be done virtually through Zoom, and you can find upcoming dates listed here: https://kines.rutgers.edu/academics/academic-advising.

You will want to be declared in our major program by the end of your sophomore year, and meet with our advisor, to ensure that you are on track for your graduation date.

Remember, some courses (Functional Human Anatomy) will open to declared majors first, or will be only for declared majors, so make sure you declare if you need those courses next semester!

Sport Management Majors

Students in the Sport Management major may notice that Sport Sociology 01:955:305 will not be offered again in Fall 2026. Any student that would like to complete that requirement during the Fall 2026 term can register for Sociology of Sport 01:920:248.

If you take the Sociology of Sport 01:920:248, please be sure to email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. so we can make sure to update your Degree Navigator to accept this equivalent requirement.

Additional reminder, it is not possible to complete a major concentration in a single semester. All concentrations for this major have one Fall only course and one Spring only course.

If you declared as a May 2027 graduation date, you must ensure that you have already completed or get enrolled in the Fall only courses listed here:

    • Finance in Sport 01:955:406 (Marketing and Revenue Concentration)
    • Coaching Theory and Technique 01:955:226 (Coaching Concentration)
    • Event Management and Sponsorship in Sport 01:955:333 (Administration and Events Concentration)

Exercise Science Majors

The major in Exercise Science will be moving to an updated curriculum in Fall 2026. If you are already declared in the Exercise Science major, this will not impact you as you will remain on the curriculum that was set at the time you declared (which you can confirm in Degree Navigator).

If you are not already declared in the Exercise Science major, we highly recommend attending a declaration meeting in Spring 2026 or Summer 2026 to ensure you do not need to take the new coursework. The new curriculum will have a new Foundations of Exercise Science 01:377:111 for 3 credits. Principles of Healthy Lifestyles 01:377:205 was also removed from the major curriculum and transitioned to a major elective course.

You can find the upcoming Declaration Meeting dates here: http://kines.rutgers.edu/academics/academic-advising.

If you are a May 2027 graduation date in the Exercise Science major, please ensure that you have already completed or get enrolled in the courses Exercise Physiology 01:377:370 and the lab 01:377:371 for Fall 2026. As a reminder, Exercise Physiology 01:377:370 and the lab 01:377:371 are pre-requisite courses for Exercise Testing and Prescription 01:377:410.
