Professional Background

Javier Robles, J.D., is a distinguished alumnus of Seton Hall Law School, holding a Juris Doctor degree, and Rutgers University, where he earned a dual bachelor's degree in Sociology and Puerto Rican and Caribbean Studies. As an Assistant Teaching Professor and dedicated faculty member of the Kinesiology and Health Department, Mr. Robles serves as the Director of the Center for Disability Sports, Health, and Wellness and was co-chair of the Disability Studies Committee at Rutgers University which successfully had the Minor introduced and approved. In the Spring of 2024, he was elected by voting faculty members as a Rutgers Faculty Senator. He oversees the Rutgers Disability Awareness Month Committee and is on the Zimmerli Arts Museum Strategic Planning Steering Committee. Mr. Robles recently cowrote a chapter on adaptive youth sports in the book, Introduction to Adaptive Sports and Recreation, by Robin Hardin and Joshua R. Pate. 

His commitment to public service is evident through his leadership roles, including Chair of the New Jersey Disabilities Covid-19 Action Committee, appointment by Governor Murphy to the Puerto Rico commission, and presidency of the Latino Action Network of New Jersey (LAN). Moreover, Mr. Robles is actively involved in national organizations, serving on the United Spinal National Board and previously contributing as a Commissioner of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation National Commission to Transform Public Health Data Systems and the chair of the Disabilities and Data Panel. He serves on the RRTC on Accommodations, Employment Supports & Success for People with Physical Disabilities (ACCESS-PD) Advisory Board at Georgia Tech University. 

With a passion for advocacy, Mr. Robles has been deeply engaged in community initiatives, such as his tenure on the Canine Companions for Independence Northeast Board and as past President of Thisabled, LLC. He also founded the supportive online community "People with Disabilities Helping Each Other Survive the Coronavirus" on Facebook. 

Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Robles is a writer, having contributed to various publications including Latinos NJ, ThisAbled Nation, and New Mobility. He is also an avid photographer, collector of vintage glass and negatives, beekeeper, and gardener in Central Jersey. 

Mr. Robles resides in New Jersey with his wife, daughter, and beloved service dog, his son lives in Florida with his girlfriend and granddaughter.
