Disability leaders condemn NJ's handling of COVID, worry about 2nd wave
While the report "takes a broad look at the state’s systems and functions and how they impact people with disabilities, their families, and service provider networks," some things need to be fixed “immediately” as COVID-19 sweeps back into the spotlight with cases rising again, said Javier Robles, a Rutgers University professor and organizer of the New Jersey Disabilities COVID-19 Action Committee, which prepared the report.

Kinesiology and Health student wins MARC-ACSM Award!
The Mid-Atlantic Regional Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine (MARC-ACSM) held its 43rd annual meeting on Friday, November 6, 2020. Nathan Stewart, a 2nd year Master’s Student in the Kinesiology and Applied Physiology Graduate program within the Department of Kinesiology and Health, was awarded 1st place in the Master’s Student Competition. His work was entitled: Nocturnal Blood Pressure Dipping Relates to Insulin Sensitivity but not Vascular Function in Metabolic Syndrome. NJ COVID-19 Disability Action Committee Released Report on People with Disabilities and the Pandemic
Javier Robles, DAC Chairperson along with a group of leaders and advocates representing the broad range of people who have disabilities in New Jersey released a report about how COVID-19 has impacted the disability community. The report describes how the State’s preparation for and response to the COVID-19 pandemic failed to meet the critical needs of people with disabilities and their families. Who Could Benefit From Exercise and Behavioral Treatment?
"Our study needs to be replicated, but the precision medicine approach of predicting who may or may not benefit from exercise as an antidepressant is provocative," said senior author Brandon L. Alderman, an associate professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health.

Coronavirus: No gym? No kids' sports? There are still ways to stay active at home
Dave Feigley, founder and director of the Rutgers Youth Sports Research Council. “We’re trying to see how quickly we can put something up online — absolutely not because we want to encourage their kids to get back out in the fields; we’re going to wait until the officials tell us that that’s acceptable — but so that the coaches can get certified at home,” Feigley said. “So that when [sports] do start up again, they’ll have their civil immunity protection [from taking the course] and there won’t be a shortage of coaches.” Click here for the full northjersey.com article
