Name: Ebony Gilchrist

Graduation Year: 2018

Major: Exercise Science - Applied Kinesiology

Minor: Creative Writing

How did you decide on your major?

I decided my major after taking a few classes within the Department of Kinesiology and Health, as well as considering my own personal interests and passions.

What is it about your chosen field (and the department) that appealed to you?

Becoming a Physical Therapy has been a goal of mine since my first year at Rutgers.  The courses for Exercise Science-Kinesiology major within the Department of Kinesiology seemed interesting and applicable to becoming a Physical Therapist.

Do you have a favorite class/professor within your major?

My favorite class has been Research Methods with Dr. Alderman. Dr. Alderman is a passionate and excellent professor. He wants nothing but the best for his students, which motivated me to become better as a student.

What are your favorite academic experiences outside of your major?

A lot of my favorite academic experiences outside of my major have been the classes I have taken for my Creative Writing minor. I genuinely enjoyed the workshop classes because they allow me to share my work and to expand my levels of creativity and writing.

What are your other Rutgers activities?

I work as an Information/ Office Assistant at the Busch Student Center.

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan to apply to a graduate school after graduation for a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. I hope to open my own practice one day as well!
