Special Permission Numbers:

A Special Permission Number (SPN) is a unique code given by the department that allows students to register for a closed course. Please note that applying for an SPN DOES NOT mean that you are guaranteed to receive one. This system is only available during the special permission periods listed below. Please do NOT email instructors. Please follow the procedure below to request SPNs for full classes: 

You may request an SPN for the following reasons: 

• • The class is full: We will put your name on the WAITING LIST, with priority given to the students in the major who meet the pre-requisites AND need the course for a timely graduation. The numbers are given first by seniority, then in order of submissions. (Seniority is as follows: Declared Seniors, Declared Juniors, Non-major Seniors)
  • The course requires it: as stated on University Schedule of Classes. 
    •  Non-Major students that secure a seat in Functional Human Anatomy Lecture 01:377:223 must request an SPN to be accommodated into the Majors- Only Functional Human Anatomy lab 01:377:224.

Do NOT request an SPN: 

• • before the section fills up
  • if other sections are open
  • if you do not meet the course pre-requisites
  • if you are a non-major and the course has not been opened to non-majors yet
  • for sections that do NOT officially appear on WebReg
  • if the course is not listed on the SPN waitlist site.

Many courses are restricted to majors only for the first week or two until registration has opened to all credit totals. Please read the course notes before you request an SPN.

Winter 2027 Special Permission Waitlist:

All students need a Special Permission Number to join the Winter section of Functional Human Anatomy 01:377:223. You must have at least a 3.0 GPA to be eligible for this course in Winter session. SPNs are given out on a first come first serve basis, regardless of major. 

There is only one round for Winter 2027. The round will open on Monday October 5, 2026 at 8:00am. SPNs are issued on a rolling basis up until December 22, 2026. 

All other Winter 2027 courses will not have a waitlist. If you are a May 2027 graduation date with a major in Sport Management or Exercise Science and a course you need has closed, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

• If you receive an email informing you that your request has been granted, you must login within 3 days of when the email is sent to retrieve your SPN.

If your SPN request is denied:

• You may not meet the pre-requisite requirement
• All sections in your request were at capacity
• You do not have enough seniority to secure a seat this semester (first year and sophomore year students)
• You can resubmit in the next round. Please include all sections of the course that work in your schedule for the greatest likelihood of accommodation

Prerequisite Overrides:

A student who is unable to register for a course because they lack the proper prerequisites should NOT request a special permission number. Under some circumstances – for example, if the student has taken appropriate prerequisite courses outside of Rutgers, and these are not yet credited to their Rutgers transcript, that would require a prerequisite override. • Your name
• Your RUID (the 9 digit number)
• Course Name
• Course Code
• Section and Index numbers of your 3 preferred sections, if appropriate

In addition, fieldwork/internships within the community and study abroad opportunities are available. These experiential learning programs provide a “hands on” approach and encourage a learning-through-living focus.

At the Graduate level, the Department of Kinesiology and Health offers an M.S. and Ph.D. Program in Kinesiology and Applied Physiology with in-depth research and training in Exercise Physiology and Exercise Psychology. Students pursuing the MBS (Master of Business and Science - a non-thesis graduate program) can focus on the Kinesiology and Applied Physiology option which combines Kinesiology courses with those in Business and Finance. The Global Sports Business M.S. Program is a 40 credit, 2 year program that begins in the fall of each year. Students will be taught by leaders in the sport industry which will prepare them for sport management positions and leadership in a global world.
